Defining Events

Create event definitions and assign them to events.

Creating a New Event Definition for an Event

Context

The type of event is specified in more detail using event definitions. Event definitions are independent model elements which can be assigned to events in a process. An event definition can be assigned to multiple events; the events do not even have to be in the same processes. Vice versa, various event definitions can also be assigned to an event

More detail can be added to various event definitions using other elements or expressions. This can be done in the event definition's respective properties.

  • A message can be assigned to a message event definition.
  • You can assign a signal to a signal event definition.
  • You can assign an error to an error event definition.
  • An escalation can be assigned to an escalation event definition.
  • Conditions cannot be defined for a condition event definition.
  • A time specification can be defined for a timer event definition.

The event definition's name is shown on the event as standard in Innovator's BPMN diagram. The event definition can be directly selected by clicking on its name.

How to proceed
  1. Select the desired property definition in the Create Diagram Content gallery.
  2. Drag the event definition and drop it on an event in your BPMN diagram.

A new event definition is created and assigned to the event. The name of the event definition is selected to be changed. The appropriate marker is shown in the event icon.

If an event definition was already assigned to the event, the new event definition is also assigned to it and the marker for a multiple event is shown in the event icon.

The event definition is stored in the model structure as standard; this can then be adapted in the configuration if necessary.

  3. If applicable, change the name of the event definition and confirm with [Enter].

Assigning an Existing Event Definition to an Event
